Privacy policy
TOWNTECH ("we", "us") sets out below its policy regarding the handling of user information in the application "Chakudon" (着丼) (the "App").
This English text is a translation provided for convenience. The Japanese version is the original; in the event of any discrepancy, the Japanese version prevails. The Japanese original is available at https://chakudon.tw-tech.jp/policy.
1-1. Information we collect
The App does not collect any personal information that directly identifies a user (such as name, e-mail address, telephone number, or postal address). It does not acquire location information via GPS.
Game progress data such as high scores, achievements, and play history is stored only on the user's device and is never transmitted to any external server.
Information is transmitted to external servers in three cases only: (1) the opt-in "Weekly Online Ranking" feature, (2) serving advertisements, and (3) analytics and crash reporting (see "3. Analytics and crash reporting").
For (1) the Weekly Online Ranking, the App transmits the following information to an external server (Firebase, described below).
- An anonymous identifier (an ID generated automatically by anonymous authentication; it is never linked to a name, e-mail address, or the like)
- A nickname (the name shown on the ranking. If the user does not change it, it is generated automatically in the form "SlurpXXXX")
- Gameplay records (calories earned, combo count, bowls finished, number of misses, play duration, and the difficulty selected)
- The version of the App
- The country/region code inferred from the device's language settings
This information is used solely for the purpose of compiling and displaying the weekly ranking. The nickname and the score, including calories earned, can be viewed by other users through the weekly ranking screen (the anonymous identifier itself is not displayed). The ranking feature can be turned off at any time via "Join the weekly ranking" on the settings screen, and no such information is transmitted while it is off.
The App also displays advertisements. In serving them, Google's advertising service (AdMob) automatically collects the following information (see "2. Advertising" for details).
- Identifiers such as advertising identifiers (Android: Advertising ID / iOS: IDFA)
- IP address (including the inference of an approximate location from it)
- App usage (actions such as viewing and tapping advertisements)
- Device and app diagnostic information (information concerning operational stability)
1-2. Use of an external service (Firebase)
The App uses Firebase, provided by Google LLC. It uses Cloud Firestore, Firebase Authentication, and Firebase App Check for the Weekly Online Ranking feature, and Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics to analyse usage and detect defects.
Of these, the weekly ranking data (the information listed in the preceding section) is stored and processed in a region within Japan on Cloud Firestore. The region in which analytics and crash reporting information (described in "3. Analytics and crash reporting") is stored is not limited to Japan.
Firebase App Check is a mechanism to prevent fraudulent score submissions to the ranking and unauthorised access from anything other than the App. On Android it uses Google's Play Integrity API, and on iOS Apple's App Attest, to verify whether the request was sent from a genuine, untampered app, and the result of that verification is sent to Google (on iOS, to Google via Apple). This verification is used solely for the purpose of preventing abuse and does not identify a user as an individual.
Regarding the handling of data in Firebase, please also review Google's Privacy Policy (https://policies.google.com/privacy).
1-3. Deletion of data
You may request deletion of the information you have sent to the weekly ranking as follows.
- Contact the e-mail address given in "9. Contact" at the end of this policy, with the subject line "Chakudon ranking data deletion request".
- Tell us the nickname shown on your settings screen and the difficulty you played.
- We will delete the corresponding anonymous identifier, nickname, and score data such as calories earned, and notify you by e-mail once this is complete.
Even if you do not request deletion, the weekly ranking is reset every Monday (Japan Standard Time), after which the record is no longer shown in the ranking. However, past score data itself remains on the server, so if you wish it to be deleted entirely, please make a request using the procedure above.
2. Advertising
The App displays advertisements using AdMob (the Google Mobile Ads SDK), an advertising service provided by Google LLC. There are two kinds of advertisement.
- Rewarded advertisements: video advertisements that the user chooses to watch, granting one in-game item (a Premium Meal Ticket). Watching is optional, and the game can be played without doing so.
- Interstitial advertisements: full-screen advertisements shown as a break point when returning from the game's result screen to the menu.
2-1. Information collected in order to serve advertisements
The Google Mobile Ads SDK automatically collects the following information and sends it to Google in order to serve advertisements, measure their effectiveness, and prevent fraud.
- Advertising identifiers (Android: Advertising ID, App Set ID / iOS: IDFA, IDFV) … for serving advertisements and preventing fraud
- IP address (including the inference of an approximate location from it) … for serving region-appropriate advertisements and preventing fraud
- App usage (actions such as viewing and tapping advertisements and launching the app) … for serving advertisements, measuring their effectiveness, and preventing fraud
- Diagnostic information (launch time, operational stability, and the like) … for quality analysis
This information is encrypted with TLS in transit. Regarding Google's handling of advertising data, please review Google's Privacy Policy (https://policies.google.com/privacy) and "How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services" (https://policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites).
2-2. Advertising personalisation and your choices
- Android: resetting or deleting the Advertising ID: you can reset your Advertising ID at any time from "Settings > Privacy > Ads" on your device (the name varies by device). You can also delete the Advertising ID from the same screen; once deleted, only non-personalised advertisements are shown.
- iOS: tracking permission (ATT): on iOS, the App shows Apple's App Tracking Transparency permission dialog the first time a screen involving advertising is opened. All features of the App remain fully available even if you do not allow it (only non-personalised advertisements are shown). This choice can be changed at any time from "Settings > Privacy & Security > Tracking" on your device.
- Users in the European Economic Area (EEA), the United Kingdom, and Switzerland: a consent screen is shown before advertisements are first displayed, and advertisements are served according to the choice made there. If consent is not given, only non-personalised advertisements are shown.
3. Analytics and crash reporting
In order to improve the service, the App uses Firebase Analytics (analysis of usage) and Firebase Crashlytics (detection of abnormal termination of the app), both provided by Google LLC.
3-1. Information collected
- App instance ID (an identifier generated automatically for each installation of the app; it is not linked to a name, e-mail address, or the like) … for aggregating usage
- App usage (screen transitions, the start and end of a game, completion of the tutorial, the difficulty selected, the outcome of watching an advertisement, and the like) … for understanding which features are used and where users drop off
- Device and OS information (model, OS version, app version, language settings) … for isolating defects
- IP address (including the inference of an approximate location from it) … for aggregating usage by region
- A record of when the app terminated abnormally (where it occurred, the error, and the state of the device at the time) … for investigating and fixing the cause of defects
This information is used solely for the purpose of improving the App and fixing defects. It is not used to identify a user as an individual, nor is it used for advertising personalisation. Nor does it involve transmitting game progress data such as high scores or achievements themselves.
3-2. Your choices
- Users in the European Economic Area (EEA), the United Kingdom, and Switzerland: if consent is not given on the consent screen described in "2-2", no analytics information is collected from that point onwards.
- If you remove the App from your device, the app instance ID is lost and no further information is collected.
- If you wish information already collected to be deleted, please contact the e-mail address in "9. Contact".
As stated in "2. Advertising" above, advertising identifiers (Advertising ID, IDFA) are collected by the Google Mobile Ads SDK in order to serve advertisements. Firebase Analytics does not use these advertising identifiers.
4. Sharing features
The App may include a feature for sharing scores to external services (such as social networks). Sharing is performed by the user's own action, through the standard sharing feature of the device's operating system. We neither obtain nor store what is shared.
5. Device permissions
The App does not request permissions such as contacts, camera, location (GPS), microphone, or storage.
On Android, the App declares the permission to use the Advertising ID (com.google.android.gms.permission.AD_ID) in order to serve advertisements. This is a type of permission for which no confirmation dialog is shown to the user, and it is used solely for the purposes described in "2. Advertising" above.
On iOS, the App shows only the tracking permission (ATT) dialog described in "2-2" above. All features remain fully available even if you do not allow it.
6. Provision to third parties
We do not sell user information to third parties.
However, as described in "1-1. Information we collect", "1-2. Use of an external service (Firebase)", "2. Advertising", and "3. Analytics and crash reporting", we send the necessary information to Google LLC in order to provide the ranking feature, advertisements, and analytics. Google uses the information it receives for the purposes it defines, such as serving advertisements, measuring their effectiveness, and preventing fraud.
7. Children's privacy
The App is not directed at children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. The App is not part of Google Play's "Designed for Families" programme, nor of the App Store's "Kids" category.
8. Changes to this policy
The content of this policy may be changed as necessary.
Where there is a significant change, we will give notice on this page.
